Summer Plans

Spring semester is finished and I've gotten a year's worth of accumulated papers, folders, and notebooks cleared from my desk and bookshelf and either sorted or recycled (mostly recycled). It's weird seeing so much fake-wood veneer instead of stacks of phtocopied paper and manila folders when I enter my office.

So I got to thinking about what I'm actually going to do in my newly cleaned office this summer, and then about what I'm going to do this summer in general. Not at all a complete list, but I'd like to:

  • Continue and improve my running regimen so as to put in a respectable showing at the Popcorn Panic five-mile run in September.
  • Teach myself general relativity.*
  • Do the whole 'do-research, write-grants, teach-summer-session, prepare-for-fall-semester-courses' thing.**

* - I suppose I know general relativity in a general sense, relatively speaking. But during my own coursework, my professors always shied away from a full, tensor-based description of the gravitational field equations and the various metrics. I'm currently reading this book and hope to develop it into an upper-level physics course for spring semester 2008.

** - Y'know, the stuff I actually get paid to do.
