last.fm or pandora: either one will tell you equally well that you listen to too much ABBA and Celine DIon

facebook. I'd say yay but you might be crushed by the numerous friend request denials

linkedin: Nay, with only the managers of that burger king as your business 'connections', it might be best to stay away from this one.

1. Don't use either.
2. Yea! C'mon, everybody's doing it! :)
3. Depends what you're using it for. Seems to me to be used more by corporate types than academic types. Might want to do some searches and see if any useful connection-type people are even using it.

I like Pandora, have tried both, but I think it's just a personal preference thing. Last FM makes you install something, pandora doesn't.

Facebook? Eh. Possible waste of time, but wave of the future. Can't hurt.

LinkedIn... probably better for corporate types, but takes very little time and energy (as opposed to FB and MySpace) so from a cost/benefit perspective definitely can't hurt.

I have not used either Pandora or Last.fm; not even sure what they are. Probably best.

I just gave in to Facebook pressure. So far, so good, but I don't get into all the extra Facebook functions. I'll take a quiz now and then, but I don't bother with poking people.

I've been on LinkedIn a while, and I joined specifically because it's low-maintenance, and it can't hurt (well said, Flygrrl). Now I'm just waiting for the big payoff...

1) Don't use either, so..
2) I like it.
3) Eh. Haven't found it useful. I've actually made more networking connections on FB.

1. All those online music things are kind of cool, but are useless to me unless I can grab the songs and keep them at no cost. It's like listening to the radio - you have some control over genre, but if I want to listen to the entire Calexico collection, can I? No.

2. I like facebook. If it wasn't for the fact that there are bands I occasionally want to check out on myspace, and friends who are slower than me to catch on to trends, I would totally abandon myspace. Facebook is much cleaner, although the quizes and "gifts" people keep sending me make me want to send in magazine subscriptions to Golf Digest with their names on them.

3. Linkedin is good. At least for me. I've been able to reconnect with some lost acquaintences there. I like how it notifies you via email, and you get a digest of the haps of your contacts about every two weeks or so; it's not a constant barrage of junk in your box.

3 Questions for you:

1. Why would you lie about how much coal you have?
2. Beavis or Butthead?
3. Did you see today's post on The Music is the Message (posted at 9:00 a.m.)?
